Sweet Valley Confidential

Fully Booked
Rockwell
9.27.11

I have this penchant to head off to bookstores while a storm is brewing in the metropolis.  With no electricity, and Macky getting low on his batteries, I went straight to Rockwell.  Had lunch at Via Mare with good buddy Sheila and decided either to watch a movie (Friends with Benefits) or have a cup of coffee.

Sheila (calling Shang Cineplex): 'Miss, showing na ba ang Friends with Benefits?'

The other end: 'Not yet, ma'am'

S: 'Not yet or not anymore??' (in a self-righteous tone!!)

'Ay sorry ma'am.  Not anymore'

Well, it turned out that it was yet to be shown.  At kinorrect pa talaga ng mabait kong kaibigan yung kinausap nya! Pagka nalang!! hahaha

Well, to dilly-dally with time, we went to Fully Booked.  While Sheila headed straight to the magazine section (typical!), I immersed myself with the top-sellers for the week.  Then this caught my fancy..

Sheeet!! After 10years (per the narrative), Elizabeth and Jessica are back!! hahahahahaha I used to, or rather still, love Sweet Valley! hahahahha  It seems that Elizabeth and Jessica had a rift and that Elizabeth is now based in New York and Jessica still remained in sunny California.  Jessica misses her twin sister and wants to patch things up, but Elizabeth can't forgive and forget the betrayal Jessica did to her..  and she wants revenge.. she wants blood!! A 360-degree turn on who used to be the goodie-toe-shoe lady :) Yuppie!!

On the downside, it's still hardbound, and it costs Php900.  I'll wait for the soft-bound copy nalang. hehehehe

Hay.  Brings back soo many fond memories!! ^_^

The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles 2)

Price tag: Php 375
Fully Booked Greenbelt5

Rick Riordan's Throne of Fire is book 2 of the Kane Chronicles, which explores the world of Egyptian gods and goddesses.  Book 1 (The Red Pyramid, and which I have) took me 4 months to finish!  It was a wishlist gift last December and I was only able to wrap up it up April of this year.  It was that uninteresting to read!!!  Aside from the fact that I know nothing of Egyptian gods and goddesses (unlike the Greek and Roman supernaturals), the use of 2 characters narrating their points of view (the use of "I") was never my thing.  This is why then, I had preferred Sweet Valley Twins over Sweet Dreams. hahahahaha Sh3t! hahahaha

So I had to review blogs to check whether this book is worth purchasing (book 2 of the The Lost Hero is still due this October 2011 and I am so pumped up on this), given the trauma beset on me by the Red Pyramid.  I stumbled upon one that caught my fancy, Bookzone4boys, and he narrates how the Throne of Fire is far better than its predecessor :)  That convinced me enough to trot down to Greenbelt 5 (in the midst of typhoon Falcon blazing the streets of Makati) and grabbed my hands on it.

Firstly, I really like purchasing at FullyBooked.  Aside from its cozy ambiance (mostly have Starbucks in their stores - oh, oh, oh, I saw a cute barista in their Greenbelt5 store hihihihi), the attendants are so accommodating!  I didn't bother to look for the book and they showed it to me, plus, I really like that they offer free plastic book covers for every purchase.  No hassle on my end :)  I like my books taken cared of :)

Also, FullyBooked has a wide array of books compared to National Bookstore (I used to get confused between Powerbooks and FullyBooked) and those hard find ones are usually at FullyBooked than at National Bookstore.  A good example is the Throne of Fire, all branches of National still do not have this book!!  Hmf.

Anyways, this is not a review of FullyBooked pala. Hihihi

So there you are hushkins.  This book will accompany me through my stormy night and will  keep you posted if it's worth the read or not :)

The Lost Hero

I first got addicted to Rick Riordan's books via the Percy Jackson series, more on after I saw the movie.  I found the lead cast who played the role cute (!), a motivating factor for me to watch the movie, and it didn't fail to entertain me :)  I now have all the 5 Percy Jackson books and I highly recommend em :)

Last October 28, I saw at Rockwell's Fully booked that Rick has released a new one, titled 'The Lost Hero'.  I was curious and read the appetizer at the back and noted that the book intertwined the characters in the Percy Jackson series with that of the new characters here.  It was like the Hardy boys meet Nancy Drew type of books that I sooo adore! hehehehhe

I was fascinated and immediately purchased it (plus Fully Booked plastic-covers the book for you for free hehehe).  I was transported back to a place of demi-gods, gods and goddesses, both of Greek and Roman style (*hint hint!*), the battles they fought and, naturally, won and the twists and plots that never failed to amaze me. :)  The book also has an index to it describing the gods and goddesses, and their respective Greek  and Roman name (e.g. Aphrodite and Venus etc etc) and after 21 days (hey!  I'm not a slow reader, I just wanted to savor the adventures in the book hmf!), I finally finished the book :)

I highly recommend the book and I can't wait for book 2, per advertisement, the release of which will be Fall of 2011. hmf! ang tagal!

Wow, after all these years, I am still a book geek. hehehehe
