Super8 is Boring!!
SM City, Batangas
3.00pm
After 2 hours of driving, I finally arrived at Batangas. I was impressed, I didn't know that the Star Toll was already connected to the SLEX and that made driving convenient.. uhm, the concrete road wasn't so smooth and I was apprehensive because Star Toll still didn't have any lamp posts along the way. This could get very very dark going back. Tsk tsk!
Whenever I want to get a clear head, I drive long distance. Somehow the scenery washes away the muddy thoughts and I get to spend some quality time with Blake :) This was my first time in Batangas City proper. It was, uhm, crowded and getting to SM was delicate. One wrong turn, and you are lost! hahahahaha
I decided to watch Super8 to kill time. My!! It was a boring movie!! I dozed off for the first 20 minutes of the film and woke up to the train incident, which was the critical turn of the movie. It was dragging!! The dialogue between the characters were barely audible, it was as if they were whispering all the time!! Plus, they just keep on staring at each other, duh. Hmf.
I didn't read the plot prior to watching the film, I wanted to guess how it will end. It was just a freaking alien movie, with predictable outcome!! I hate it. The setting was circa 1970s, advent of colored videos and the use of Kodak films (yah, Kodak must have chipped in doughs). The story was run by 6 children (children, as in loud and nosy bunch!) out to do some film project, who happened to be at the train station at the right time. A neighbor tried to ram his truck straight towards the incoming train, and boom! That woke me up, imagine, from the barely audible conversations to Dolby-surround explosions that span 10minutes! Outrageous, a truck creating that much damage?? OA.
Did I mention that children were casts in the film? Loud children?? My goodness, they talk simultaneously after that incident, as if all freaked out etc, and it tends to get irritating. I wanted to scream, shut-up! I want to sleep some more! hahahaahaha :) The only funny part was when the alien attacked the bus they were riding in, and one of them suddenly vomited! hahahaha hilarious! That vomit came out of nowhere! hahahaaha
The ending was a dead-give-away when the children were at the school researching why the neighbor (who turned out to be a teacher/doctor and part of the team that did a research on an alien) tried to ram his truck towards the train. The doctor said, I could feel when the alien touched me that he was not happy being captured. Duh. Then let him free!! I just didn't get the notion why the alien needed to capture individuals to re-create his spaceship. Connect please.
Good thing was the ticket price was cheap, Php125. I didn't feel that much cheated, though I must admit, I should have watched Green Lantern instead! hmf.

Tangled Dreams
![]() |
| from the movie, Tangled |
Disney's Tangled does address my woes. It somehow lifts my spirit and transports me to another world that I could just be on my own. Weird. I know that it's fiction and I wouldn't dare go into criticizing the visuals, cinematography, musical score etc. I just want to express how the movie dawned on me.
The movie is something conjured from dreams, that these things don't happen in real life (duh) but somehow, it touches the very core of me. I wouldn't expect to meet a thief who will turn out to be my prince someday, that's so unreal, plus I wouldn't dare go near them also! hahaha But, but, but.. the dialogue the movie conveys is something else, something to ponder through, for me to digest and nibble on. And with the close of one chapter in my life, these lines smack me big on the face:
Rapunzel: 'What if it's not what I dream it would be?'
Eugene: 'It will be..'
R: 'What if it is?'
E: 'Then that's the good part.. you will get to find a new dream'
Hay. I need to move on.
Hush, hush for now**

Wednesday - Narnia!
2nd day of my crash diet, este, mandatory leave. hehe
Went to the gym around 4pm and afterwards booked a ticket for the last full show of Narnia in 3D. It was between Monsters and Narnia but the ticket receptionist recommended the latter (baka naman kasi mas mahal), but the better side of me heeded her advise.
Since I had time to kill, I roam around Galleria scouting for that perfect suit for our red carpet themed Christmas party. There wasn't much to see, and I was a bit exhausted from the hour-cardio I had. I decided to have my dinner (since I only had 3 bananas today, mind you), at Burger King. The meal (Jr Whopper) was so-so, and wasn't worth the price I paid for. I mean, I could have a better meal at Yoshinoya or Jade Palace for the same price. Well, regrets come in late.
The theatre was basically empty and I feel I had the movie all by myself. No noisy and nosy kids to mess up the dialogues of the film (gosh, Harry Potter was unbearable with all the kids around, and the reason why I didn't blog about it), or the sounds of plastic bags whenever somebody had to take out their food and later crample.. Good start. hehehe
Narnia, voyage of the dawn treader, is a feel good movie. I haven't read the book so I had to relay on the plot. The movie focused on both Edmund and Lucy, and a new character, their begrudging cousin Eustace, on their adventure yet again (well for the 2 anyway) to Narnia. Peter (tsk tsk) and Susan (yehey!) were not major characters in this new film, but Prince Caspien (double yehey!!) was around to compensate for Peter's absence. hehehe Prince Caspien never failed to excite me whenever the film focused on him and kinikilig ako, for lack of better terminology. hehehe
The highlight for me would be when Eustace turned into a dragon (ooops! sorry) and learned to accept that he is indeed in a place where a rat with big ears talk, invisible people exists and its ruler led by a lion. Another one would be the ending, where Lucy realized that it was her last visit to Narnia.. I was a bit moved with this scene.
On the other hand, I was a bit disappointed with the 3D. It wasn't 100% 3D and I feel I was short-changed with the ticket I bought, plus the popcorn and soda came in small package. Hmf!
Overall, it's a movie you may or may not watch. Up to you really, I'm not a big fan but I simply had nothing to do up my sleeves for the day :)
For my perusal, here's what I ate today:
3 bananas
around 10 oranges (yung super maliliit at cute na oranges, hinde yung malaki ha, ok ka lang)
Burger King - Jr Whopper with Ice Tea, Fries and half-sundae (half lang! hmf)
Popcorn na small with small coke zero
Acck!

'mend the broken.. vanquish the evil..'
" Boron: (from trailer, voiceover) When you've flown as far as you can, you're halfway there!
Gylfie: (confused) What did he say?
Digger: (ecstatic) We're halfway there!"

- Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
I have been anticipating this movie for so long and last Sunday, after a sumptuous lunch at Wai Ying in Binondo, honey and me went to Megamall to watch this movie. Of course, I didn't settle for anything but 3D viewing. I was anticipating a long queue at the cinema booths, but apparently, everyone seemed to be trooping to the IMAX at MOA (as noted in my FB wall), so we had the cinema to ourselves. hehehe or was it because we bought tickets for the last full show? hmmmm...
When we entered the movie house, everyone were swaying to a 3D game being played. I wanted to rush to my seat and get into the fun, but when we reached our reserved seats, the game was done =( Everyone seemed cheerful after the game and I was really curious how it looked like in 3D!! I wasn't wearing my 3D glasses when I entered the cinema =( ugh.
Neways, the national anthem played by SM displayed GMA stars, compared to the ABS-CBN talents before. I'm not a fan of GMA but the portrayal of the anthem was definitely refreshing, from the battle in Mactan til the EDSA revolution, which portrayed Marian as a nun (which I found plastik hehehe).
Back to the Legend. The movie was definitely worth the exorbitant price SM charges you for a 3D movie (the ticket price was P225, but we paid P250 each because it 'came with beverages'. I said, can we not avail of the beverages? The cashier said, no, it's bundled. Puttanesca, pineperahan mo kami eh!' hehe).
The movie started out with young Soren narrating the story to his sister (Eglantine) of how the Legend of the Guardians saved the owl clan from Metalbeak, who wants to rule the owl world his way. Soren's brother, Kludd, didn't believe this, said it was just all made up.
When the brothers Soren and Kludd were 'gliding' one night, they were kidnapped by the forces of Metalbeak. Needless to say Kludd joined Metalbeak's forces while Soren, idealistic and all, searched for the legend together with his trusted friends, Gylfie (the Navigator), Digger (the Tracker), Twilight (the Warrior) and Soren's nanny snake. Soren discovered that the Legend was real, the guardians rushed to save the universe (the owl universe hehehe) and later realized that a mole was amongst them and Soren gets to save the day =)
The plot is very typical but what amazed me were the graphics and how vivid the movie was! =) It didn't fail to amaze me for the 2hours plus run, and the scenes I loved most were the following:
- fight between Soren and Kludd in the fire-struck rainforest;
- the plight and flight of Soren and friends in search for the guardians during a blizzard (the slow-mo scenes were unbelievable!! =) );
- Soren's effort to save his guardian friends, rushing into the fire-struck rainforest (slo-mo again);
- first time that Soren and Gylfie learned to fly and feel their feathers (ahhh goosebumps)
and so on and so forth. =) The movie definitely brought out the kid in me and was touched by the brotherly affection of Soren to his sister and brother, despite the latter's betrayal, which is sooo sad =( I can definitely relate because I know I am a good brother hehehe Ni.relate ba?
So, hushkins, go out and enjoy the movie. Again, the plot's not complicated and this is the type of movie you'd just lay back, relax and enjoy. No fuss, only pure entertainment =) love love it.
PS - I wonder if the producers issued cute stuff toys of the movie characters hehehe
